Leopard rock is a hard and unusual variety of Serpentine. It comes from a few small mines in Nyanga, Eastern Zimbabwe, and gets its name from the black spots on a pale background. There is a sub-variety from Shamva, north of Harare, which holds a stronger yellow colour. This is a fairly old material which has often been used in Shona art carvings but has not been polished in a classical sense for many years. Thus is a "new" material which is back on the market! The polishing is done by expert Malagasy lapidaries in South Africa.
Green serpentine is said to have been one of the stone used in the breast plate of high priests. It is said to stabilise disorders in the body by redirecting energy towards the problem. Serpentine also has been useful in raising kundalini energy. Place the serpentine galei on your crown chakra or above your head when you are doing a body lay-out. This will cause energy to rise helping you clear clouded areas of your chakras. Green serpentine will also stimulate the crown chakra. This is a fantastic stone to meditate with.
