Fellow Weavers,
We celebrate the autumnal equinox in the Southern Hemisphere on the 20th - 21st of March. This corresponds to Monday, March 20, 2023, at 21:24 UTC. The equinoxes are the only time when both the northern and southern hemispheres experience roughly equal amounts of daytime and nighttime. There are two equinoxes yearlyโone around march 21st and another around September 22nd.
This seasonal celebration marks for us here in South Africa the beginning of the autumn season, while across the seas, our friends in the north celebrate the start of spring.
Spiritually there is a great power around โedge timesโ, like the equinoxes, as they represent the balance between day and night, winter and summer, dark and light. More profoundly, they represent the balance of light and life and dark and death within human spirituality;
All things must die before they can be born again.
The Autumn Equinox is the literal dying of the sun and the light, and without the dark, cold winter, the sun cannot be reborn in the spring, and life cannot continue. The sun's journey is considered the spiritual journey that man takes from darkness to enlightenment.
The Autumn equinox is a meaningful time of year to honour the harvest. This is the time to harvest all your efforts and intentions you have placed in and on your life path. On the fall equinox, you might choose to honour all that you have in life. It is time to shift from a poverty consciousness of lack to prosperity and gratitude for all you have achieved.
